Demographic Factors in the Eduction of Relations in Analogy Word Pairs.

Abstract

Data on the eduction of relations from word pairs were obtained on 1500 word pairs and 10 relations, from 3486 high school students (10th through 12th grade) in a large Southern metropolitan area school system. Data were obtained by presenting each respondent with a list of 150 word pairs and asking the respondent to indicate the word pairs containing a specified, defined relation (e.g., class-member, similarity/equivalence, opposite). Response differences between males and females, between whites and nonwhites, and between higher and lower social class groups were examined. This report details the statistically significant response differences found. (Author)
