An Assessment of the Marine Corps Combat Arms Enlistment Bonus.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact of the $1,500 combat arms enlistment bonus on Marine Corps enlistment. Although historical information is utilized, the data primarily relied on are responses to questionnaires designed by the authors. The results of the study suggest that the bonus has had only a small impact on both the quantity and quality of enlistees to the Marine Corps. Had the bonus been offered only by the Army, however, enlistments in the Marine Corps might have been considerably reduced. (Author)
