Root Determination of Polynomial Equations with Real Coefficients.

Abstract

A program has been written in CDC FORTRAN EXTENDED that provides the solution of polynomial equations of any degree with real coefficients of the form: y sup n + (A sub 1) y sup (n-1) + (A sub 2) y sup (n-2) + . . . + (A sub n) = 0. The program has been included in the permanent files of the Picatinny Arsenal CDC-6500 computer and may be accessed and used from any teletype connected to that facility. An explanation of the use of the program, an explanation and derivation of the mathematics on which it rests, and a listing of the program, in CDC FORTRAN EXTENDED are included in the report.
