Nearly Best Linear Invariant Conditional Estimation of the Mean and Standard Deviation of the Logistic Distribution.

Abstract

The method of Lagrangian Multipliers, based upon the use of order statistics, is used to find the nearly best, linear, invariant, conditional estimators for the mean and standard deviation of the logistic distribution. Coefficients for multiplying ordered logistic statistics are developed for full and censored samples of size N=2(1)40. The censored samples are singly censored from above and symmetrically double censored from each end. The use of the conditional estimation coefficients for simultaneous parameter estimation is shown.
