Evaluation of Runway Skid-Resistance Characteristics at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota.

Abstract

Data gathered during the Air Force Weapons Laboratory standard skid-resistance test conducted at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, on 21 October 1972 are analyzed. The test results indicate the runway surface had only fair skid-resistance properties and decidedly poor drainage characteristics. The report recommends an overlay be constructed on the runway to correct the drainage problem, followed by a porous friction surface to improve skid-resistance properties. (Author)
