A Maximal Determinant Problem.

Abstract

The problem investigated in the report is the determination of the maximum possible value of the determinant of a matrix obtained by multiplying the transpose of a given matrix A by the matrix A, where A is a matrix of plus or minus 1's with at least as many rows as columns. The solution is obtained for most cases. A reasonably self-contained exposition of the prerequisite results from the literature is included. (Author)
