On the Theory of Streamer Breakdown,

Abstract

In the present study the authors developed a qualitative theory to calculate the velocity of an anode-directed streamer in a case where the latter is independent of length. The stability of a streamer front in relation to infinitely small excitations is studied. It is shown that when a front of finite thickness is considered the streamer is stable. In an approximation for an infinitely thin leading front, the streamer is unstable.
