Comparison of a New Model for Internal Ballistics with a Conventional Model,

Abstract

The report compares two models for describing internal ballistics: one model is of the conventional type and is based on the equations of Hunt and Hinds, with a modification to incorporate the possibility of a nonlinear burning rate. The other is a new model based on a partial differential equation description of a one-dimensional unsteady flow. The report contains an analysis of the hypotheses of each model and a comparison with experimental measurements of their predictions under conditions of different charge weight to projectile weight ratios as well as different rates of burning.
