Atmospheric Modeling for Molecular Absorption Research Project.

Abstract

The project developed a number of phenomenological and physical variations of the five-parameter band model for molecular transmittance in the infrared using data from line-by-line calculations in the 15 micron - CO2 band. Conversion from a standard inhomogeneous atmosphere to a homogeneous medium is obtained with the use of modified Curtis-Godson relations and calculated line intensities averaged over 5/cm. Comparisons are made between the calculated and original data indicating that band modeling yields accuracies comparable to the degree of validity of the original transmittance provided that the number and nature of the band parameters are allowed spectral dependence.
