LSI Digital Subsystems for Communications.
Abstract
The report describes work relating to the application of LSI (large scale integration) technology. Three distinct tasks have been defined. Task A involves the combination of a silicon-on-sapphire/large scale integration (SOS/LSI) logic circuit with a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), a phase comparator, and a crystal reference oscillator to provide a complete digital frequency synthesizer. Task B relates to the development of a monolithic CMOS LSI Digital Time Division Crosspoint Switch array. Task C consists of the development, test, and delivery of sample quantities (20) of a P-MOS LSI array that implements a portion of the digital logic of a radiation measuring instrument. These three tasks represent demonstration of several distinct applications of the MOS LSI technology. Custom design techniques were used for Task A which was implemented in the very high speed, low power CMOS/SOS technology. Standard cell design automation techniques were used in the design phase of the bulk silicon CMOS LSI array described in Task B. A third approach using the gate Universal P-MOS LSI array represents yet another facet of the MOS technology. (Modified author abstract)
