SOSTEL (Solid State Electric Logic) Design Matrix, DHS (Data Handling System) Configuration Control and Technical Consultation.

Abstract

The study was conducted to develop guidelines for applying SOSTEL to aircraft electrical systems in general. The A-7 and P-3C electrical systems were used to establish requirements for typical systems and to form model circuits from which the design guidelines were evolved. Data was generated and graphs were plotted which provides the designer a means for determining the level of improvement SOSTEL offers over conventional designs in terms of weight and volume considering such variables as size of system, complexity of system and the ratio of input signals to output signals. Application considerations that should be followed when implementing the SOSTEL system are presented. Emphasis is placed upon establishing compatibility between loads and load controllers. Various utilization equipment was operated with power controllers and operational performance are discussed. Requirements for configuration control for the SOSTEL DHS software and hardware were investigated and a concept is presented which will prevent eroneous application and installation of the software and hardware in the aircraft.
