Development of High Temperature Resistant Materials for Use in Naval Ordnance.

Abstract

The design and construction of an 18 in. induction furnace for Pyrostrand (a graphite composite) fabrication is successfully accomplished. The capability of the furnace is satisfactorily demonstrated by the fabrication of a 5.5 in. I.D. Pyrostrand cylinder. This cylinder is wound with 14 layers of carbon reinforcement. Pyrostrand cylinders 2 in. and 3 in. in diameter are prepared and submitted for physical properties tests. (Author, modified-PL)
