Failure Processes in Metal Matrix Composites. Phase II.

Abstract

Boron/Aluminum (B/Al) composite blades were consolidated and impacted by RTV birds. Failure responses were observed. The blade deflections as determined by high speed movies were compared with calculated values generated from and AFML model and gave good agreement. Analyses of the strain gage responses yield inherent stress levels, resonant frequencies and logarithmic decrement of these blades. (Author)
