Thermodynamic Properties of Rocket Combustion Products and Nozzle Materials.

Abstract

Experimental thermodynamic data were obtained for 28 species and compounds relevant to rocket exhaust gases and refractory metals and their compounds. These experimental studies resulted in 15 publications in the international journals of chemical physics and physical chemistry. Abstracts of these papers are presented. Reported for the first time were thermal data for a number of mixed halides, chlorine and fluorine, of aluminum, boron and beryllium formed as exhaust species in liquid, solid and hybrid propellant systems. These published results have been employed for preparation of new JANAF Thermochemical Tables for previously unreported propulsion species and refractory compounds. New data were obtained for the gaseous oxides of vanadium as well as for the gaseous nitrides of vanadium and chromium. Heats of sublimation, vaporization and fusion for elemental vanadium and nickel were also determined. (Modified author abstract)
