Dynamics of the Chemistry of Electronically Excited Atoms in Defined Quantum States.

Abstract

The design and construction of an apparatus for time-resolved atomic absorption spectroscopy is described and its usefulness in studying atom-molecule reactions is discussed. In particular, preliminary experiments involving measurement of the branching ratios for production of electronically excited atoms in metathetical reactions are reported and future investigations are considered in light of these early results.
