Product Improvement of M13A1 Filter Elements: Airflow Studies.

Abstract

Airflow studies for the M13A1 Product Improved Filter Element were conducted to increase the overall capabilities in agent adsorption of the M17A1 Field Protective Mask. Concepts such as spacers, baffles, edgeseal compression, and flow deflectors were evaluated for improved performance. The concepts of direct air impingement against the laminate and laminate curvature were also investigated. It was postulated that reduced agent adsorption and nonuniform airflow were caused primarily by nonuniform laminate resistance caused by edgeseal compression. (Author)
