Comparison of Direct and Cascade Form Realizations for Nonrecursive Digital Filters,

Abstract

It was shown that the cascade form could be implemented with the same number of delays, adders and multipliers as the direct form filter. Several examples were given to show the advantages and disadvantages of both forms. Which form should be implemented depends on the requirements of the application, but the cascade form was shown to be a suitable alternative to the direct form for the realization of nonrecursive digital filters.
