Reduction of Voltage Standing Wave Ratio on Doppler Very High Frequency Omnirange.

Abstract

The report describes an investigation into the cause of increased voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) in Doppler very high frequency omnirange (VOR) carrier, sideband, and goniometer feedlines. The results of the investigation show that the VSWR tolerances listed in paragraph 227b(3), of Handbook 6790.4, can be achieved when (1) a 54.7 degrees modulation bridge is used, (2) when making goniometer feedline VSWR measurements and the carrier feedline is terminated in a dummy load, and (3) when a stub positioner section is used with the L14 stub in the sideband feedline.
