Investigation of 21 Chemicals with Respect to Explosion-Proof Electrical Equipment.
Abstract
In the investigation each flammable material was to be subjected to tests to obtain (1) data on flame propagation through close fitting metal-to-metal surfaces, and (2) explosion pressures developed in enclosures under various conditions, using the Westerberg Explosion Test Vessel. This flame propagation and explosion pressure data coupled with information on flammable limits, ignition temperature, flash point, and other chemical and physical information could then permit classification of the flammable chemical into one of the Groups of Class I Hazardous Locations. Thus selection of appropriate explosion-proof electrical equipment could be made when necessary. (Author)
