Finite-Element Analysis of Edge Effects in Angle-Ply Composite Laminates.

Abstract

A three-dimensional finite-element modelling and analysis technique is developed and used in the evaluation of edge stresses in angle- ply composite laminates. Excellent results are obtained for the initial application to a four-ply + or -45 degree laminate in tension, and the method is potentially applicable to holes, notches and other boundaries of arbitrary geometry.
