Inspection History of Chicago Bridge and Iron Co. Steam Receivers used on TC13 Mod 0 and Mod 1 Steam Catapults.

Abstract

The report describes the various inspections performed on three steam receivers. The various methods used to inspect the receivers were visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic, and dye penetrant. The steam receivers were used at the TC13 and TC13 Mod 1 catapult sites from October 1965 to November 1973. This is the first time in five inspections that any cracks were found. All previous inspections found the receivers free of defects. The cracks found during this inspection in no way affect the structural strength of the receivers. All cracks were ground out and faired/blended into surrounding metal. No repair welding was needed. Inspection of all three receivers will be conducted every 18 months to insure structural integrity of the receivers. (Author)
