An Improved ELF Electric Field Probe.

Abstract

The design and development of an improved probe for measuring electric fields at extremely low frequencies is described. The probe is spherically shaped and relatively small (6.3 cm in diameter). It uses a fiber optic light guide as the transmission medium to prevent unnecessary disturbance of the measured electric field. The probe is capable of measuring fields between 10 mV/meter and 500 V/meter with a passband of 20 Hz to 12 kHz. Problems encountered in design, packaging, and field use and their solutions are presented. (Author)
