CW Laser Effects on Composite Materials.

Abstract

Boron epoxy and graphite epoxy composite samples were irradiated with a CO2 Electric Discharge Laser with irradiances from about 700 W/square cm. Penetration times for the various sample thicknesses as a function of irradiance were measured. Temperature measurements were made on the rear surface to determine if thermal conductivity properties have a significant role in the experimental measurements. (Author)
