Integrated Battlefield Control System Division Level System Definition Second Refinement. Volume I. Main Report.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to define an improved manual command and control system for the mechanized infantry division. This study presents a detailed description of the H-Series TO and E baseline organization, to include command and staff functions, procedures and information flow, as related to the operations, intelligence, support and command subsystems. Additionally, those procedures that offer potential as candidates for automation are identified. With respect to basic organizational configurations, this study compares three alternative organizational concepts and describes and recommends a refined baseline organization for further testing and evaluation. The study addresses problems concerning the maintenance of continuity of operations in the event of destruction or displacement of the command post and investigates nuclear and non-nuclear hardening criteria.
