Anti-Chafe Hose

Abstract

The report presents the results of a research and development program conducted to establish the feasibility of, and the design and test criteria for, a chafe-resistant flexible fluid hose for Army helicopter applications. The vibratory chafing tests developed and conducted under this program demonstrate the feasibility of a flexible high-pressure fluid hose with integral elastomeric chafe guard which provides a tenfold increase in mean-time-between-failures (MTBF) compared to similar unprotected hose subjected to identical chafing conditions at -65F, +275F, and +450F. This significant improvement was achieved without sacrifice of other performance parameters.
