Tailored Dielectrics.

Abstract

The overall objective of the study was to investigate the feasibility of depositing beryllia dielectrics and copper RF circuits on a copper substrate by means of the arc plasma spraying process for use in microwave electron tubes. A totally enclosed water-cooled spraying facility was designed and constructed for safe processing of beryllia. The system is operational under inert or oxidizing atmospheres which are continuously filtered and closely monitored for contamination. Operating procedures were developed and used for the plasma spray deposition of beryllia and copper. Studies showed that a high deposition rate of beryllia could be achieved suggesting future economy for beryllia-component fabrication. Two sample RF circuit assemblies were fabricated and delivered to USAECOM for evaluation. (Author)
