Scintillation and Polarimeter Measurements at College, Alaska.

Abstract

The report summarizes the scintillations and polarimeter measurements being conducted on a routine basis by the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska at College, Alaska, on Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories Contract Number F 19628-71-C-0113. The purpose of this contract is to record the behavior of the total electron content of a column of the ionosphere and the scintillation induced on a VHF radio signal passing through that column from a beacon radio transmitter located on the NASA ATS-1 geostationary satellite. Specific events are discussed to indicate the relationship between the scintillation data, the polarization data, and other geophysical phenomena routinely obtained at the Geophysical Institute.
