An Investigation and Demonstration of Methodologies for Determining the Reading Skills and Requirements of Air Force Career Ladders.

Abstract

The report investigates alternative approaches or methodologies that could be used to determine the reading skills and requirements of Air Force career specialties. Several of the methodologies reviewed have actually been applied in Army military occupational specialties, but the purpose of this study was to select and demonstrate a methodology which had the greatest potential for use within the Air Force. The methodology selected in this effort was applied to five technical courses at Lowry AFB, resulting in empirically determined reading requirement levels for those courses. A comparison of two methods used for predicting an individual's reading grade level from standardized test measures of general ability was also accomplished. (Author)
