Pattern Recognition Techniques for Monitoring Electrocardiograms.

Abstract

A computer algorithm is developed which is capable of analyzing electrocardiographic data. The algorithm locates Q-waves, R-waves, S-waves, and T-waves, and computes QRS intervals and S-T intervals. The algorithm also identifies QRS complexes from Preventricular Contractions and T-waves from other waveshapes occurring within the Electrocardiographic data. The algorithm uses both time domain and spatial frequency domain pattern recognition techniques to analyze the ECG data to locate and identify these waveforms and associated intervals. The electrocardiograms of 16 patients, representing a cross-section of normal and abnormal heart conditions, are used to test the accuracy of the computer determinations. All pattern recognition techniques used within the algorithm are developed and explained completely. (Author)
