Studies of Large Amplitude Plasma Waves.

Abstract

The report summarizes the accomplishments of the University of South Florida Solar Plasma group in several areas, namely (1) Development of a nonlinear theory of waves in a cold magnetoplasma (2) Nonlinear Waves in a Waterbag Plasma (3) Attempts at generalization of the foregoing cold plasma theory to finite temperatures. (4) Ion tripping as a stabilization mechanism for the ion-acoustic instability. (5) 'Swift' acceleration of solar protons (6) Plasma expansion experiment (7) Ion Acoustic Waves in a density gradient (8) Effects of large-amplitude RF on Ion Acoustic Waves (9) RF field effects on langmuir probe characteristics.
