Study of Graphite Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites.

Abstract

Continuous filament graphite composites with polysulfone resin matrix are evaluated for mechanical properties and environmental resistance to explore its potential for structure component usage. Mechanical and physical property tests on Polysulfone (P- 1700)/A-S graphite composites show no deficiencies that would preclude their use in missile or aircraft structural components. In general, property values of 90% of those obtainable with equivalent epoxy/A-S graphite systems are consistently obtained with several panels showing equivalent properties. Prepreg quality and uniformity appear to be the main factor in preventing equivalent properties from being consistently obtained. (Author-PL)
