On Some Statistical Estimation Problems Relating to Communication Message Reliability.

Abstract

For some problems in networks and production processing the distribution of characteristics such as noise, error, or lifelength is at least partially unknown. These situations can be characterized in the context of grouping of messages or product lots. For this situation there are several approaches such as Bayesian, empirical Bayesian, or classical procedures. Results are derived here for the case wherein the density of a parameter in a conditional distribution is only partially specified. The approach is carried out for the cases where the conditional is normal (Poisson) and the prior distribution is normal (gamma). (Author)
