Numerical and Theoretical Study of the Response of Hard-Mounted Equipment.

Abstract

A numerical study was performed on the response of hard-mounted equipment in a frame structure subjected to a triangular pressure pulse. Two aspect ratios and two stiffnesses were considered for the frame which was restrained by soil modeled with oneway compressive springs. Point-mass and beam-type equipment was analyzed together with bilinear-elastic and elastic-plastic supports. Models for predicting the effects on equipment of stress waves in the structural walls were developed. A computer program was developed to model the non-linear material behavior.
