Development of an Improved Sensitive Triaxial Piezoelectric Accelerometer.

Abstract

The triaxial piezoelectric accelerometer has been subjected to certain modifications. To allow flights aboard sounding rockets without the requirement for de-spinning, the system frequency response has been broadened to allow operation at normal sounding rocket spin rates. The noise figure deterioration as a consequence of the increased band-pass has been partially compensated by taking advantage of recent improvements in semiconductor components, and by a new piezoelectric element design. A simple technique for computer-recovery of low frequency data has been devised. Minor changes in mechanical design have been made. Two flight quality accelerometer systems have been fabricated and tested, one of which was flight tested during the Ice Cap 73 rocket program. (Modified author abstract)
