Recommendations for the Exploitation of Cloud-Particle Samples from the 1968 Florida Cumulus-Seeding Project and Project STORMFURY.
Abstract
Both Formvar and foil cloud-particle samplers were included in the NAVY/ESSA Florida Cumulus-Seeding Project, May 1968. Their use has been proposed for the NAVY/ESSA 1968 Project STORMFURY operations. These instruments could be used to study cloud particle micro-structure and the formation of precipitation within non-seeded as well as seeded tropical cumuli and hurricanes. Such a study would provide necessary microphysical information on the effects of the seeding. The purpose of this paper is to summarize briefly the literature concerning the Formvar and foil samplers. From this summary, recommendations are made for organizing and analyzing the cloud-particle data from these projects. (Author)
