AN/TPQ-31 Performance: During Evaluation as a Hostile Weapon Locator

Abstract

The report addresses the AN/TPQ-31 Counter Mortar Radar performance against various types of artillery weapons at Dahlgren, Virginia and Fort Sill, Oklahoma during the first week of December 1972 and from 23 January 1973 through 7 March 1973, respectively. An analysis of data recorded at the AN/TPQ-31 sites on 81 mm, 4.2 mm, 105 mm, 155 mm, 8 inch and 175 mm rounds is presented. Firing point miss distances of 108 meters on 81 mm rounds with 100% detection to 956 meters on 105 mm rounds with 67% detection are derived for the AN/TPO-31.
