Synthesis of Organic Monomers.
Abstract
Developmental quantities, 1 kg each, of experimental monomers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7-hexahydrobenzo (1, 2-C: 4, 5-C') dipyrrole dihydrobromide and 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 hexahydrobenzo (1, 2-C: 3, 4-C') dipyrrole dihydrobromide were synthesized. It was found that direct scale-up of the laboratory reactions lead to drastically reduced yields and in some cases development of modified procedures was required to successfully recover usable product. This report briefly describes the difficulties encountered in the syntheses and documents the modified procedures used to prepare the pure products. (Modified author abstract)
