Cross-Section Analysis. Part I. Introduction and Background.

Abstract

The paper represents the first in a series of technical papers entitled 'Cross-Section Analysis' which are concerned with the use of computer-produced, vertical cross sections of radiosonde data in weather analysis and forecasting. It presents a brief discussion of the concept of cross-section analysis, an outline of the cross-section format as plotted by the computer for teletype transmission and a review of the pertinent thermodynamics. An introduction to analytical techniques is also given.
