Some Basic Image Degradation and Enhancement Techniques.

Abstract

The report documents a collection of basic techniques for degrading or enhancing images. Included are blurring by averaging or iterated averaging; deblurring by contrast stretching, histogram flattening, and combination of the Laplacian with the original image; addition of noise; removal of periodic noise by selective spatial frequency filtering, and of 'salt and pepper' noise by selective local averaging; and object extraction by 'semi-thresholding.' Examples of the results obtained using these programs are given. (Author)
