The Calculation of Emission and Absorption Coefficients of the Positive Column of a Low-Pressure Mercury-Argon Discharge.

Abstract

The report describes a method of calculating the emission and absorption coefficients for the positive column of a mercury-argon discharge from experimental transmission and emission intensity measurements made by the Double Path method. The discharge considered is operated at 3 Torr of argon and the saturation vapor pressure of mercury at 300 degrees Kelvin. The emission and absorption line shapes of the mercury and spatial concentration distribution of mercury atoms for the excited atomic states are considered for spectral lines with the wave lengths 3650.15, 4046.56, 4358.34, 5460.74, and 5790.66 (angstroms).
