Zoom Feed Technique Study.

Abstract

The final report covers the period 10 November 1972 through 10 November 1973. During that period several tasks were accomplished, all of which pertain to large-element, limited-scan phased arrays. The first task was development of a feed system concept for multiple-ring planar arrays in which the sum and difference channels can be separately optimized in circularly-symmetrical aperture modes, and duplexing can be accomplished using the elemental phase shifters. The second task was reduction of this concept to practice in a single ring of 16 elements, and the third task was development of a circularly-symmetrical, optimum-difference pattern in which maximum sensitivity is obtained for a given side lobe level. The synthesized distribution is actually a circular version of the Bayliss aperture weighting. (Author)
