Carbohydrate Composition of Polysaccharides in the 'Chinia Genus',

Abstract

The composition of polysaccharides from the genus Chainia include the monosaccharides galactose, glucose, mannose, ribose, and fucose. The composition of polysaccharides from the species Act. hachijoensis of the genus Actinomyces is distingusihed by the absence of fucose. The quantitative content of monosaccharides in the polysaccharides of various species from the genus Chainia, obtained on a synthetic medium, was extremely similar. Qualitative differences in the composition of polysaccharides between the Chainia genus and Act. hachijoensis, as manifested by the absence of fucose in the latter, can be used in establishing the systematic position of these genera.
