Infrared and Ultraviolet Spectra of Antibiotics Isolated from Actinomycetes,

Abstract

The survey is a brief outline of basic information on the question of using infrared and ultraviolet spectra for structural and sterochemical study of antibiotics isolated from actinomycetes, for purposes of identifying them. During derivation of the correlations between absorption bands in the IR and UV spectra and the structural elements of the molecules, the authors focused attention on those antibiotics whose structure is completely or at least partially established; this served as a criterion for reliability of the derived correlations. The characteristic absorption bands obtained for individual groups of antibiotics are shown.
