Automated Ceiling and Visibility Forecasts--An Evaluation of an Operational Test.

Abstract

An operational test was conducted to determine the feasibility of providing automated objective guidance to field forecasters responsible for issuing aviation terminal forecasts (FTs). Single-station (SINGSTAS) equations for the prediction of the probability of specified ceiling and visibility categories were implemented for 22 U.S. terminals. Decisions involved in the implementation procedure are discussed. The effectiveness, reliability, accessibility, repeatability, acceptance by the users, and accuracy. (Author)
