Absorption, Distribution, and Excretion of Morphocycline,

Abstract

At a dose of 3,000 units/kg the maximum concentration of morophocycline in the blood was determined 30 min after administration and comprised 1.5 units/ml. The maximum antibiotic content in the bile was found 1-1.5 hours after administration and was double the concentration in the blood. The preparation was found in the blood in bacteriostatic quantities up to 6 hours after administration, and up to 12 hours in the bile. The content of antibiotic in the urine reached 50-60 units/ml in two hours after administration; morphocycline was excreted with the urine for 48 hours. The organs of rabbits taken at various times after injection showed the greatest concentration of antibiotic in the kidneys (up to 5 units/gram). Up to 1 unit/gram of the preparation was found in the liver and lungs.
