Topside Ionosphere Ion Heating Due to Electrostatic Ion Cyclotron Turbulence.

Abstract

It is shown that strong ion heating is a consequence of electrostatic ion cyclotron turbulence in the topside ionosphere. Ion temperature profiles are obtained and the implications of the heating effect on anomalous resistivity calculations are discussed.
