High Density Optical Memory.

Abstract

Progress during this period includes successful demonstration of (1) electron coloration techniques with resulting substantially improved memory performance, and (2) thermo-electric cooling of the crystal. Automatic multi-address operation of the memory has been improved and the long term stability of M(A) centers in KCl has been reaffirmed. Writing has been achieved with 1/300 as much energy using the electron colored crystal. This opens up the possibility of replacing the argon ion laser and deflector with an oscilloscope using an electron beam pumped lasing face plate.
