Validation Test of Indicator, Temperature, Refrigerated Products, Field (832.49.052).
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to conduct a validation test on a temperature indicator designed primarily for use in shipping whole blood. The indicator was developed by Artech Corporation, 2816 Fallfax Drive, Falls Church, Virginia 22042. Type 'A' and 'B' temperature indicators were activated in 5C temperature and attached to blood bags filled with 512.5 ml of water. A constant temperature water bath provided the testing medium. The temperature was monitored by a Yellow Springs scanning tele-thermometer. Results show that type 'A' indicator, designed to indicate in the range of 8-13C rendered an efficiency of 37%. The type 'B' indicator, designed to indicate in the temperature range of 10-15C, was 22% efficient. In the hands of the contractor they were 98% reliable. Further work is necessary to determine the reason for the discrepancy. (Author)
