Research on Tropical Rainfall Patterns and Associated Mesoscale Systems.

Abstract

The dry areas of the tropics are often neglected when the rainfall of the equatorial regions is discussed. A large section of this report is about the dry parts along the northern coast of South America. Some of the coastal areas and offshore islands are deserts. The orographic effects in these areas are marked, because the air is moist and some uplift will cause rainfall. It was determined that the individual rainstorm was about half the diameter of those in wet tropics. The climatic movement of the wet and dry seasons across Ecuador was determined and the mean dates portrayed on maps. (Author)
