Results of Correlation of Deep Seismic Sounding and Gravimetry Data (Rezultaty Sopostavleniya Dannykh GSZ i Gravimetrii),

Abstract

On the basis of kinematically coordinated deep seismic sounding models, the gravity field was analyzed by using the relationship between density and velocity. It was shown that the total field is determined mainly by the structure of the sedimentary layer and the depth to the M surface. The effect of density variations in the consolidated crust is less important. No noticeable contribution by the mantle's heterogeneities was disclosed. In most cases, density variations in the earth's crust produce gravitational effects of an isostatic nature. An approximate method was proposed and tested for the computation of the depth of the M surface by Bouguer anomalies. (Modified author abstract)
